WebMaybe BLM just isn't the class for you. None of my spells feel "meh" to me. The only ability that feels "meh" is surecast. Even Freeze, while not terribly useful, at least looks cool and is fun to cast. I do think Freeze should work more like Flare (at least give full Umbral Ice stacks).
